Asian Dragon Cake

I had been working on this head all day Friday. That night, I ended at a point that I was very very happy with, put everything away, cleaned up the mess of a kitchen and set it on the counter top for the finishing touches the next day. I went upstairs for a break from the kitchen. My bouncing baby girl came upstairs nonchalantly and sat next to me. After a few minutes we decided to go back downstairs to eat dinner. My husband had walked into the kitchen before me and with a tone of shocking disapproval said, "ALLI??!!" My heart instantly sunk! I walked into the room to a mangled dragon head. After eating many pieces of fondant that used to be there, it must have donned on her that the dragon head "scared" her. So she did what any other frightened 2 1/2 year old adolescent would do in that case which was...stab it to death! I think she succeeded!

I ended up taking off the bitten pieces that were left and some that were too badly damaged to keep and waited until morning to try it again. So after a dreadful attack by my devilish little girl, I finally ended up with this...

The head is made of sculpted rice crispy treats and covered in fondant. I followed a tutorial on how to make it here.

The body was chocolate cake and frosting. The scales were stamped by my wonderful and inspiring husband!

Changes in the upcoming year (2012)!!

For those of you that were still wondering about getting pictures taken this year, I am currently booked out! I am not taking any more photo shoots until next year (2012) after all the holidays are over.

Also on another note, my prices will be increasing at the beginning of the year. $100 for individuals, $125 for family photo shoots (up to 5 immediate family members) $15 for each additional person, and $150 for newborns. These changes will take effect Jan. 1, 2012.

I have learned that I cannot say no to those in need, and I always feel as other people's happiness is more important than my own. I still feel this way, and I think I always will. I love to see smiling faces when I know I've given them something they can cherish forever. But, for purposes of keeping my own sanity, enjoying my holidays with my own family, and being a happy mom, I cannot push myself the way I have been and be the person I want to be. So, therefore, I wanted to say that there will be a deadline for pictures in 2012. I am not going to be taking any bookings after October 30, 2012. No exceptions. This does not mean I'm done taking pictures forever. It just means that for everyone that wants pictures to send out to family and friends for the holidays needs to make sure it's done before the 30th of October.

My goal is to only do one shoot a week during the year. I do know that it is more demanding for the holiday cards and so for that reason only I will be taking two shoots a week starting in August. So that gives you 3 months to get those pictures done. I really hope that you can understand. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do and I want to thank EVERYONE that has made this year so memorable! I really love and appreciate all that you have done for me! It's because of all you that make this so enjoyable! THANK YOU!!
